History of the Centre

Ormside Mill Residential Centre is a registered charity (no. 1078029) whose primary purpose is to provide affordable residential experiences and adventurous activities for young people.

The Mill, which had previously been used as a private family home, was bought in 1999. The buildings and facilities have gradually developed over the years thanks to the hard work of the staff and a group of committed volunteers, who regularly gave their time to help develop the centre.

Most of the groups that stay at the centre are voluntary youth clubs working in disadvantaged communities in the north of England. However we welcome a whole range of groups from schools and colleges, families and corporate groups during the year.

The centre is joint venture between the Lancashire Association of Boys and Girls Clubs and Greater Manchester Youth Federation. (formerly known as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Manchester).

Facilities

Bedrooms

We have 7 bedrooms, sleeping 18 people in single/bunk beds and fresh linen is provided.

Living room

A comfortable living room with low beams and a fantastic log burning stove.

Kitchen

A full-equipped self-catering kitchen with a 6-burner gas cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, pots, pans etc.

Dining room

A versatile dining room that can accommodate up to 20 people. There is also a fixed projector and screen

Grounds

The centre sits in its own wooded grounds next to Helm Beck. There is also a large grass paddock, small orchard, paved courtyard, barbecue area and fire pit.

Barn

The large barn across the courtyard from the Mill offers a range of extra facilities including a large indoor play area, additional toilets & showers and a drying room.

Classroom

The classroom area offers a separate meeting space with access to our resource cupboards and a fixed projector and screen.
